Great Colorado Baking Show!

I'm addicted to cooking shows. Chopped, Iron Chef, the Kitchen, Great British Baking Show, Great American Baking Show, you name it. I don't love some of the Food Network's personalities (Guy and Giada, I'm looking at you), but love, love, love Ina Garten. And the PBS lineup can suck me in for an entire Saturday.

In honor of the Great American Baking Show, which just completed, I had to test a recipe I saw: Pear Frangipane tart. It's a Mary Berry concoction and it sounded like it would be the perfect Christmas day dinner dessert.

And it was! This recipe is a keeper--not too sweet, delicious flavor, and not terribly heavy. Tart + whipped cream = pure heaven...

We thought we were going to have to say goodbye to our girl this week. She had a few terrible days and our hearts almost broke. A visit to the Vet turned her around. More pain meds, more often, to soften the pain and help with her arthritis. She's not a new dog, but she's clearly more comfortable. I'll take it, for now.

Made it, a day late, but not totally wiped out. The city is beautiful and we lunched at a cafe waterside. Our delay meant we didn’t make it to Waiheke Island, but we made the best of our one night in town. Something tells me I’ll be repeating this phrase for weeks, but the people are just lovely. The vibe is relaxed and so, so comfortable.
